RI President to visit District 6800
For the first time in almost ten years, District 6800 will be visited by a Rotary International President. Jim Diffee, president of the Rotary Club of Tupelo, has confirmed that RI President Ray Klinginsmith will visit the Tupelo Rotary Club on Monday, October 4.

Past District Governor Janice Johnson Trawick, executive secretary of the Tupelo club, said all Rotarians in District 6800 are invited to attend the regular Tupelo Rotary Club luncheon meeting at which President Ray will speak. It will take place at 11:45 a.m. at the Summit Center, 852 North Gloster Street.

Cost of the luncheon is $15 per person. Registration and payment in advance to the Rotary Club of Tupelo is required via registration forms which have been sent to all club presidents in the district.

A member of the Rotary Club of Kirksville, Missouri, President Ray attended the University of Cape Town (Africa) in 1961 as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. Elected to the RI Board of Directors in 1984, he became the first recipient of a Rotary Foundation Award to serve on the RI Board and is the first former Rotary Scholar ever to serve as RI President. President Ray is known as "the most approachable individual to serve at the helm of Rotary."

The Rotary Club of Midtown Memphis – update from Dick Wieland
The Rotary Club of Midtown Memphis was granted a charter on August 26, 2010. The club meets at the University Club in Memphis at 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday. Plans for Charter Night are in progress and will be announced later. The club President is Maury Tower who is the daughter of Jim Eickner of WKNO.

The $200 million Challenge Rotary clubs are being asked to donate $20.00 per member per year to raise $200 million to match the Bill and Melinda Gates grant of $355,000,000. Please do your part to help ensure that the Rotary International organization will receive this important matching grant. As of April 2010, Rotary clubs from around the world had raised $117.5 million to surpass the half-way mark in meeting the $200 million challenge.

In a video message to Rotarians, Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, thanked Rotarians for their hard work in the effort to eradicate polio and congratulated Rotary for surpassing the halfway point in meeting Rotary's $200 Million Challenge.

"The work you're doing to raise funds for the program is critical, especially given the tight government budgets and increasing costs for a very aggressive polio program," Gates said. "Your work as advocates is also very important. We need to keep this fight high on the world's list of priorities."

Your contribution will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.

After 20 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating polio! However, a strong push is needed now to root out polio once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of historic proportions.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high. By donating now, you can help Rotary achieve a polio-free world.

Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) - $100.00
All money raised through EREY goes to the Annual Programs Fund which supports The Rotary Foundation's humanitarian and educational programs. This includes humanitarian grants that Rotarians use for projects such as literacy classes, mosquito nets and clean water.

While giving $100 per year through EREY -- less than $9 per month -- may seem like a small amount, the Foundation helps that money have a big impact. For example, it can help provide four cataract surgeries in India. Also, when you give $100 you automatically become a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member.

If you wish to donate $100.00 to this extremely worthy cause, please see club Treasurer Bill Eddings.
