This week, our speaker will be Jan Sherman, chair of the Department of History at the University of Memphis. Dr. Sherman has been with us a number of times in the past. She may as well be a member! Dr. Peter Brand is a Dunavant Professor of Ancient History and Egyptology at the University of Memphis. Dr. Brand is the Field Director for the Karnak Great Hypostyle Hall Project of the University of Memphis, and will be speaking about this fascinating project.
The Hypostyle Hall was built by Seti I in the Nineteenth Dynasty ( about 1292 – 1187 BCE,) and was finished by his son, Ramesses II. Many pharoas used the Hall, until it’s closing in the fourth century, AD/CE.
