Dictionary Project 2012!

This week, one of our newest members, Ben Boston, will be speaking to us about the bilingual Dictionary Project he has been working on for some months now.  Ben employed help from the Boy Scouts, and together they will be passing out hundreds of dictionaries at schools in the mid-south.  The need for these dictionaries was much greater than anyone anticipated.  We look forward to hearing Ben’s story.
As usual, we will meet at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn on Central Avenue, at noon.  Come early to beat the buffet …

Dr. Peter Brand – Professor of Egyptology 9/30/11

Dr. Peter Brand is a Dunavant Professor of Ancient History and Egyptology at the University of Memphis.  Dr. Brand is the Field Director for the Karnak Great Hypostyle Hall Project of the University of Memphis, and will be speaking about this fascinating project.
The Hypostyle Hall was built by Seti I in the Nineteenth Dynasty ( about 1292 – 1187 BCE,) and was finished by his son, Ramesses II.  Many pharoas used the Hall, until it’s closing in the fourth century, AD/CE.
