Mark Horrocks – Habitat for Hope

Our next meeting will be Friday, December 2 at noon at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn (no meeting on 11/25 for Thanksgiving.)  Our speaker on December 2 will be Mark Horrocks, founder and president of Habitat for Hope House.  In their own words:  ”Habitat for Hope exists to support, serve, and care for families facing the serious illness of a child.”  Mark and his wife Mylissa have their own story to tell about coming to Memphis to care for their seriously-ill child.  They saw a need and seeked to fill …

Memphis Area Women’s Council

On Friday, March 18, 2011, Deborah Clubb (not pictured), executive director of the Memphis Area Women’s Council, will be our featured speaker.  The MAWC is a non-profit organization that aims to connect research with activists, in order to change policies and practices that limit the success of women and girls.
According to their website, they have been involved with the following initiatives:

Ending corporal punishment in city schools.
Securing a living wage for Memphis and Shelby county employees.
Leading a new campaign to connect victims and volunteers with domestic resources via www.erasedomesticcrime.com.
